How do you decompress after the holiday season?
by Kate Hardy
The holidays usually means a lot of socialising, a lot of eating and drinking, and by the end of it we're all pretty tired and in need of plain food and an early night! But one of the nicest ways of decompressing is heading for the beach. I live in Norfolk (the big bump above London on the east side of the UK), and our beaches are beautiful. There's nothing better than the wind blowing the cobwebs out and the sound of the North Sea crashing onto the shore while we walk through the dunes. It's too cold to paddle (and there was the one year when it was so cold, we lasted ten seconds outside the car before the children said that their faces hurt from the cold and we had to give up!), but it's a gentle way to start the new year and remember the special things in life.
And if we're really lucky we get to to see the seals at Horsey Gap, as we have for the last couple of years on New Year's Day. (Below, the white one's the baby.)
